THE STATUS OF STRESS AND RELATED FACTORS AMONG NURSESAT VIET NAM NATIONAL CANCER HOSPITAL - CAMPUS 2 IN 2021

Abstract

Objective: To describe the current situation and identify stress-related factors among nurses at Viet Nam National Cancer Hospital – Campus 2 in 2021. Method: A cross-sectionaldescriptive study, combined collecting quantitative data from 59 clinical nurses and qualitative datafromfive deep interviews of 01 department head nurse, 02 nurses with the highest mean score and 02 nurses with the lowest mean score of stress. Results: The overall mean score of stress was 1.67 ± 0.34 points(low level of stress), in which the stress levels by mean scores followed 8 problems regarding Facing the death of patient; Conflict with the doctor; Unprepared emotion; Nursing colleague-related problems; Superior-related problems; Overload work; Treatment-related uncertainty andPatient and family-related problems respectivelywere 1.72 ± 0.46 points; 1.40 ± 0.45 points; 2.11 ± 0.67 points; 1.37 ± 0.77 points; 1.34 ± 0.39 points; 1.87 ± 0.55 points; 1.53 ± 0.34 points; and 2.03 ± 0.52 (average level of stress). Based on general classification, the percentage of nurses had the low level of stress was79.7% the remaining 20.3% of nurses had the average level of stress. Working environment, work content and personal featureswere factors related to the stress status of nurses. Conclusion: The stress level of nurses working at Viet Nam National Cancer Hospital – Campus 2 was mainly low. The most stressful factor was unprepared emotion, followed by problems regarding patient and patient’s family, and then overload work. Factors: Working environment, work content, personal factors, outside work at the end of working hours, number of patients in a shift, main income in the family are factors related to Nursing stress.
