Current quality of life among elderly people at Thai Binh city in 2023

Abstract
Objective: Assess the quality of life of elderly people in Thai Binh city. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 420 elderly people living in 6 wards and communes of Thai Binh city. Assess comorbidities based on the Charlson Comorbidity toolkit. Assess daily living functions and assess ability to use daily tools using Kernisan’s toolkit. Assessing the quality of life of the elderly based on the quality of life measurement scale in Vietnam. Results: The average age of participants was 69.9 years old, 41% were male and 59% were female. Quality of life score for ages 60 - 69; 70 - 79 and ≥ 80 are: 6.3 ± 1.9; 7.2 ± 2.9 and 8.7 ± 3.1 with p < 0.05. Quality of life score of single group; widow; married was: 7.3 ± 1.3; 8.1 ± 3.4 and 6.7 ± 2.4 with p < 0.05. The quality of life scores of the groups with income and without income are: 6.6 ± 2.1 and 7.4 ± 3.1 with p < 0.05. The quality of life score of the group without chronic diseases was 6.2 ± 1.8; The group with 1, 2 and ≥ 3 diseases is: 6.7 ± 2.4; 7.9 ± 2.6 and 10.8 ± 4.7 with p < 0.05. The quality of life score of the group not hospitalized, hospitalized 1 and ≥ 2 times was: 6.7 ± 2.3; 7.4 ± 3.1 and 12.3 ± 6.3 with p <0.05. The quality of life score of the group that depends on eating and moving activities and needs help is: 9.5 ± 4.3 and 9.4 ± 4.2 with p < 0.05. The quality of life score of the group needing help in financial management was 7.5 ± 3.1; The dependent group using transportation is 8.2 ± 3.4; The group that needs help in cleaning the house is 8.9 ± 3.8. The dependent group in shopping is 8.5 ± 3.6; The dependent group when preparing meals was 8.3 ± 3.5; The dependent group using the phone was 7.4 ± 2.9. The dependent group in drug administration was 8.4 ± 3.6 with p < 0.05. Conclusion: Elderly people in Thai Binh city have a good quality of life of 80.7%. Poor quality of life was 6.9%. There are statistically significant differences in quality of life in the following areas: age group, marital status, income, number of illnesses, frequency of hospitalization, daily activities and use of tools
