Abstract

Objective: To describe the current status of standard precaution knowledge among nurses, midwives, and technicians at Nghe An Friendship General Hospital in 2024 and related factors. Participants and methods:This cross-sectional descriptive study examine the standard precaution knowledge of 300 nurses, midwives, and technicians. Using a knowledge questionnaire built on the guidelines for standard precautions outlined in Decision No. 3671/QD-BYT dated September 27, 2012, by the Ministry of Health. Results: The average score for standard precaution knowledge among nurses, midwives, and technicians was 13.6 (± 3.7) points. The best knowledge was on the purpose of using personal protective equipment (95%), while the least knowledge was on the concept of standard precautions (45.3%). Standard precaution knowledge of nurses, midwives, and technicians was significantly related to age, work experience, educational level, and professional field (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The knowledge of standard precautions among nurses, midwives, and technicians in this study is limited. To enhance effectiveness in standard precaution practices, healthcare facilities should organize regular training programs to improve knowledge, particularly for staff with less work experience and lower educational levels, and to raise awareness about the use of personal protective equipment to ensure patient safety and care quality
