Current status of knowledge on care and prevention of pneumonia of mothers with children under 5 years old treated at Hai Phong Children’s Hospital in 2024 and some related factors

Abstract

Objectives: Describe the current status of knowledge on care and prevention of pneumonia of mothers with children under 5 years old treated at Hai Phong Children’s Hospital in 2024 and some related factors. Methods: Cross-sectional study on 200 mothers with children under 5 years old with pneumonia being treated at the Respiratory Department - Hai Phong Children’s Hospital from April to June 2024. Results: The rate of mothers with knowledge about pneumonia and its symptoms was 58.0%, knowledge about caring for children with pneumonia was 79.5%, mothers with relatively high knowledge about pneumonia prevention was 94.5%, and mothers with general knowledge were 68.5%. Factors related to mothers’ knowledge of pneumonia care and prevention after multivariate regression analysis were: age group, education level, information source received from medical staff, information source received from the internet. The difference was statistically significant with p < 0.05. Conclusion: Knowledge of pneumonia care and prevention among mothers with children under 5 years old treated at Hai Phong Children’s Hospital in 2024 is good. It is necessary to increase information support, health education communication to mothers under 25 years old and with high school education or lower with simple, easy-to-understand, easy-to-remember content
