Abstract

Objectives: Describe the level of independence in daily activities of stroke patients at Nghe An Traditional Medicine Hospital in 2024 and some related factors. Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study on 240 stroke patients from April 2024 to June 2024 at clinical departments of Nghe An Traditional Medicine Hospital. Assess the level of independence in daily activities of stroke patients according to the Barthel scale. Results: The average Barthel score for independence in daily activities of stroke patients was 56.6 ± 27.3 points. The rate of patients who were completely independent in daily activities was 12.9% and the rate of patients who were dependent in daily activities was 87.1%, of which patients who were partially dependent were 50.4% and patients who were completely dependent were 36.7%. There was a statistically significant difference between the level of independence in daily activities of stroke patients and the following factors: age; location of paralysis; history of stroke (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The level of independence in daily activities of stroke patients at Nghe An Traditional Medicine Hospital in 2024 is still limited. Nurses should use the Barthel scale to assess the level of independence in daily activities of patients to improve the patient’s ability to care for themselves
