Abstract

Objective: To describe and to identify some factors related to nurses’ knowledge of metal instrument decontamination at Thai Binh provincial general Hospital in 2024. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 150 nurses working at the Surgery Department in Thai Binh provincial general Hospital from February 2024 to May 2024.The questionnaire was developed in advance based on Nguyen Ngoc Diem’s research and the Ministry of Health’s Guidelines on disinfection and sterilization of instruments in medical examination and treatment facilities and was tested for reliability with a Cronbach’s alpha value of 0,886. Results: The rate of knowledge about decontamination of metal instruments is still low with 55.3% having inadequate knowledge. Nurses with high professional qualifications, who have been trained in decontamination of metal instruments at the hospital, have better knowledge than nurses with low professional qualifications, who have not been trained in decontamination of metal instruments. The difference is statistically significant with p < 0.05. Conclusion: The current state of nurses’ knowledge of decontamination of metal instruments is still limited. Most nursing characteristics are correlated with nurses’ knowledge of metal instrument decontamination
