Change in care knowledge of mothers whose children under 5 years of age have pneumonia at The National Children’s hospital

Objective: To assess the change in care knowledge of mothers whose children under 5 years of age have pneumonia after health education at National Children’s Hospital. Method: A health education intervention study with before-after comparison on a group of 150 mothers whose children under 5 years of age have pneumonia treated inpatient at theNational Children’s Hospital from April to June 2024. Results: Before the intervention, the percentage of mothers with correct knowledge about pneumonia was 56.7% with an average score of 11,8 ± 3,92 of 24 points. After health education, the percentage of mothers with correct knowledge about pneumonia was 97,3%, with an average score of 20.97 ± 3,05 of 24 points. The difference was statistically significant with p < 0.01. Conclusion: Mothers’ knowledge about disease, care and prevention of pneumonia is still limited before health education interventions. After health education, mothers’ knowledge has improved significantly, which shows the effectiveness of health education in improving mothers’ knowledge about diseases, care and prevention of pneumonia
