CHANGES IN THE PATIENTS’ AWARENESS OF PREVENTION OF RECURRENT PEPTIC ULCERS AFTER AN EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTION AT NAM DINH GENERAL HOSPITAL IN 2017

Objective: To describe the situation and assess the changes in the awareness with peptic ulcer recurrence prevention of peptic ulcer patients. Methods: One group, pre and post intervention was performed on 72 peptic ulcer inpatient at Nam Dinh General Hospital from February 2017 to May 2017. Results: After educational intervention, patients’ awareness about diet, lifestyle and medication were statistically significantly different compared to baselinewith p <0.01. Specifically, scores on dietary was 8,90 ± 1,08 compared to 5,91 ± 1,49 in baseline. The lifestyle score was 7,23 ± 0,70 compared to 5,11 ± 1,57 in baseline. The medication compliance score in the first evaluation was 2,63 ± 1,10 and increased to 6,04 ± 0,86 in the second evaluation.The proportion of patients who have appropriate knowledge in baseline and after intervention were 1,4% and 80,6% respectively. Conclusion: the limitation of awareness of peptic ulcer recurrence prevention improved significantly after educational intervention. This shows the important role of counseling, health education.
