COMPLIANCING SAFE INJECTION OF FULL-TIME UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS AT NAM DINH UNIVERSITY OF NURSING

Abstract

Objective: To describe the compliancing safe injection of full-time undergraduate students at clinical setting. Methods: A cross-sectional description was conducted on over 100 full- time undergraduate students of the 9th course. They were observed and evaluated their practice of safe injection on patients from February 2016 to September 2016. Results: 100% of students followed the injection procedure using sterile needles; 97% of students used trolleys for injection; 50% of students used the injection trays; 90% of students used a box for sharp objects near the injection site; 26% of students washed their hand and used disinfectant for their hands before they prepare medication; 26% of students washed their hand and used disinfectant for their hands before they give subcutaneous injection; 41% of students wear gloves before giving intravenous injection, fluid transfusion, and blood transfusion; 78% of needles used for taking medication were sterile. 100% of injections were followed the prescription, 96% of them were followed the right time; the right position of injections were at 97%; 89% of injections had the right angle from the skin; and the right depth of injections were at 88%; 90% of injections had tested pisyons before injecting; Steps of inserting needles and taking them out quicky and administering medication slowly were followed at 91% of injections; 74% of students did not use their two hands to close the covers of the needles; 99% of contaminated needles and syringes were kept separate in safe box. Conclusion: Most students followed the injection procedure under 17 standards for safe injection issued by Ministry of Health. However, there were some limitations such as washing hand and useing disinfectant for their hands before preparing medication and giving subcutaneous injection which were at low ratio.
