Clinical characteristics and diagnostic status of laryngeal cancer in some hospitals in Hanoi

Abstract

Objectives: Escription of clinical features and diagnostic status of laryngeal cancer at some hospitals in Hà Nội.

Patients and methods: A retrospective descriptive study on 828 patients with a confirmed clinical and pathological diagnosis of laryngeal cancer treated in ENT hospital, National cancer hospital, Ha Noi oncology hospital from 2014 to 2019.

Results: The most common functional symptom is hoarseness with 96,1%; Patients diagnosed less than 6 months after having the first symptoms were 84,7%; Cancer starting from the glottis accounted for the highest rate of 94,3%; cancerous lesions are localized in a single layer of the larynx, accounting for 53%, mainly in the glottis ( 49,6%); Patients were diagnosed at early stage T1, T2 with the rate of 87,2%; Patients with no regional lymph node metastasis accounted for the highest rate of 98,1%.

Conclusion: The main clinical symptom of laryngeal cancer is hoarseness. Most patients are diagnosed at an early stage and the rate of lymph node metastasis is low
