CORE COMPETENCY STATUS OF HEAD NURSES AT HOSPITALS IN THAI BINH PROVINCE IN 2021

Objective: To describe the current situation of core competencies of the head nurses at Thai Bình province hospitals in 2021. Method: Cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted from January 2021 to June 2021 on 233 head Nurses working at 20 hospitals in Thai Binh province. Results: Head nurses self rated their competence as following: low (1,7%), average (20,2%), high (59,7%) and very high (59,7%). Statistically significant factors associated with core competencies of the head nurses included: age group, hospital level, type of hospital by ownership and time length of management position. Conclusion:Most of the head nurses at hospitals in Thai Binh province had good core competencies (78.2% had high and very high competencies). Hospital level and time length of management position were significant factors statistically associated with core competencies of the head nurses. It is necessary to pay attention to improving core competencies for head nurses at district hospitals and for those with short management seniority
