Caregiver’s buren when caring for patient post cardiovascular surgery at Post operative care unit, Cadiovascular center, Viet Duc hospital

Abstract

Objective: To describe the burden of caring among primary caregivers of patients post cardiocascular surgery at post-operative care unit, cadiovascular center, Viet Duc hospital, to identify some associated factors toward caregiver’s burden. Subject and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 50 main caregivers of patients post cardiovascular surgery at post-operative care unit, cadiovascular center, Viet Duc hospital by using Zarit questionaire. Results: The mean scores of Zarit was 40.12 ± 7.80. Over half (60%) of primary caregivers had burden of care at morederate and above level, 34% had the burden at severe level. Factors that increase level of caregiver’s burden were: Being in hospital more than 1 week (p = 0.031), time for caring (p = 0.043), being husband/ wife or children (p = 0.043). Conclusion: Levels of care burden among caregiver were morderate. The caregiver’s burden was significantly associated with length of hospitalization, time for caring each day and the relationship with patient.
