Abstract

Objectives: To describe the current status of the Quality of Life (QoL) of lung cancer patients at Nam Dinh Provincial General Hospital in 2023. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 145 lung cancer inpatients and outpatients receiving treatment at the Oncology Department of Nam Dinh Provincial General Hospital. Data were collected through direct interviews with patients, utilizing two sets of questions assessing overall QoL (EORTC QLQ-C30) and QoL specific to lung cancer (EORTC QLQ-LC13). Results:Of the study participants, 79.3% were aged ≥ 60, and 55.2% were married. QoL, as measured by the EORTC QLQ-C30, showed average scores for physical functioning at 32.87 ± 24.75, operational functioning at 33.79 ± 25.61, cognitive functioning at 29.89 ± 27.63, social functioning at 26.21 ± 26.11, overall health at 48.33 ± 20.66, financial aspects at 71.72 ± 27.87, fatigue at 67.28 ± 25.42, nausea and vomiting at 66.67 ± 25.76, and dyspnea at 68.74 ± 26.12. The average QoL score based on the EORTC QLQ-LC13 was 69.27 ± 26.21. Conclusions: The QoL of lung cancer patients is at a moderate level (69.27), with a high average QoL score in terms of financial aspects (71.72). Nursing interventions should address factors such as dyspnea, difficulty swallowing, anxiety, and economic impact to enhance the QoL of lung cancer patients
