Factors influencing the level of sustainable rice cultivation in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam

Abstract

The research was conducted to explore the socio-economic factors of households that affect the adoption of the SRP standard in the Mekong Delta. Data was collected through interviews with 200 farmers in the provinces of An Giang and Dong Thap. The results of linear regression analysis identified six factors that positively influence sustainable rice cultivation among farmers: educational level, farm size, participation in cooperatives, farm diary, collective irrigation pumping, and farming contract. Based on the analysis results, several solutions have been proposed to promote sustainable rice cultivation, such as raising awareness for rice growers, establishing and strengthening cooperatives, supporting record-keeping, investing in infrastructure for rice production, enhancing enterprise-farmer linkages, supporting brand building, and providing financial and technical support for farmers.
