Abstract

Kanji is one of the popular writing systems in Japanese, alongside Hiragana and Katakana. However, due to the complexity of this writing system, many learners encounter difficulties in using Japanese Kanji correctly, particularly in the process of Vietnamese-Japanese translation. This article addresses the current situation of errors regarding Japanese Kanji in translation by Japanese Language majors at Ho Chi Minh City Open University. After analyzing and synthesizing errors, the author will conduct in-depth interviews and surveys with students. Through these means, the research will identify errors related to Japanese Kanji made by students when translating from Vietnamese to Japanese. These errors mainly focus on issues such as using Sino-Vietnamese sounds, Sino-Japanese sounds, spelling, and word repetition. Consequently, the research will present results and propose recommendations for lecturers and students involved in the teaching and learning of Japanese Kanji.
