Abstract
The purpose of this article is to analyze the current situation and factors affecting the pattern of using housework time of the elderly in Can Tho City. Based on the survey results of 399 elderly people aged 60 - 75 randomly selected in 06 districts of Can Tho City, the elderly spend a certain amount of time on housework activities. Participating in this activity helps the elderly demonstrate their role with their family, brings joy, and reduces social prejudices about old age. To identify factors that affect the pattern of using time for housework, the study also built a linear regression model to evaluate the influence of these factors on the pattern of using time for housework. The model demonstrates that the time spent on housework by the elderly varies according to gender, age, employment status, livelihood activities, and stage of life. This is an important basis for social managers to use to have supportive policies for the elderly, helping them to “live a happy, healthy, and useful life”.
