Abstract

The quality of teachers and their teaching are the top factors in determining the quality of graduates after they leave school, especially English major students. The data obtained from the students is divided into two main contents, including (1) Professional factors, and (2) non-professional factors. Regarding professional factors, an English teacher who is considered “qualified” according to the students needs to showcase two conditions: (1) a mastery of understanding teaching methods, and (2) sufficient preparation of extra teaching materials. Behaviors not related to the profession are referred to by the students to evaluate the quality of an English teacher, including (1) the teacher’s personality, (2) the teacher’s communication skills, (3) the teacher’s attitude towards students, and (4) adequate classroom management and problem-solving skills.
