Current situation of using and getting addiction of internet of Secondary school students in Hue city

Abstract

Internet addiction is a hot topic and there are much discussions in both academic and in scientific areas. Internet addiction has many serious consequences for the lives of addicts, especially teenagers and students. However, in Vietnam, this issue does not seem to be an interest of researchers. The study aimed to determine the rate of internet use and addiction in Secondary high school students in Hue city, Thua Thien Hue province; Besides, this research also studies the correlation between Internet addiction and psychological health, social health and academic achievement of junior high school students. Cluster sampling with a sample size of 405 secondary school students representing public schools in Hue City. The results showed that the rate of Internet use in students was 93.6%, and the rate of Internet addiction; tendency in students was 6.4%. Through the regression analysis between Internet addiction and psychological health, social health and academic achievement shown, Internet addiction has a significant impact on psychological health, social health, and academic achievement of students. From the results of the study, it is necessary to conduct further research on this issue. At the same time, it is also necessary to get support from the society, the school, and the family to reduce Internet addiction of students.
