Abstract

Extremophiles and endophytic microrganisms have recently become targets in the search for new and interesting compounds. Endophytic microorganisms have shown a remarkable
capacity for antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, antioxidant and immunity fostering activity. The strain Streptomyces flavofungini 2E41, endophytic in Sonneratia apetala, was isolated and
found to possess anticancer activities. The etylacetate extract of culture broth of the strain
showed high inhibition activity against the Lu cell line with IC50 0.32 μg/ml and to be nontoxic to fibroblast cell line NIH/3T3 (IC50 > 256 μg/ml). T he most suitable cultivation time and
temperature of the strain was 96 hours at 30 oC. The active compound was stable during the
cultivation. The characteristics of the strain and the compounds showed benefits and potential in
production and purification of the compounds.
