Abstract

Traditional village economies with tightand cohesive social networks in which the quantityand quality of information on people'scharacteristics are relatively high can be afavorable environment to convey informationabout the issue of Vietnamese immigrant workersinternationally. This research examines socialnetworks, especially kinship ties, and studies theeffects of such networks on the overseas migrationof Vietnamese youth in their migration decisionmaking process to Northeast Asia. Based on theresults of surveys and in-depth interviews, thestudy shows that Vietnamese youth migrantsutilize social networks to facilitate their migrationefforts in Do Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district,Nghe An province. Migration networks not onlyrelay information from places of departure andarrival but also provide practical support andassurance for the migration process of new people.This contributes to the creation of a “chainmigration” system. The article aims to provideinsights into how Vietnamese workers choose tomigrate and emphasizes the impact of their migrationchoices.
