Abstract
In the context when migration plays an increasingly important role in development and poverty reduction policies, remittance and remittance use have been always attracting the attention of researchers. This paper, therefore, focuses on analysing the main aspects of remittance and remittance use at 3 selected communes (Giao Xuan, Hai Chinh and Nghia Hung) in the rural coastal area of Nam Dinh province. Interdisciplinary fieldwork methods were used to collect the primary data. Content analysis and descriptive statistics were applied to process and analyse data, to compare and present the relationship of the main research variables. Research results show that remittance has an important position and role in income structure, poverty reduction and improvement of prosperity when considering these through income criteria. Remittance is not only used to improve households' living standards but also to develop their livelihood assets. However, the availability of remittance and the lack of labour at the sending communities are causing consequences such as abandonment of, rental out or noninvestment in agricultural production and salt making.
