Abstract

The article focuses on understanding the types of characters in short stories by Japanese writer Dazai Osamu. Using the analysis method, statistics method, and cultural sociology method, the research confirms that in the short story system, the author has typical character types such as the enduring female character, the underground rebellious female character, the disorienting corrupted character, and the urbanist alienated type. With each typical character type, readers can see a subtle hint of Dazai Osamu's unmistakable autobiography, from there, readers can have a more comprehensive view of the tragic and loss-filled life of a genius in the post-war period in Japanese literature.
