Abstract

The article uses the Reference Theoryof Pragmatics to clarify how language refers tocharacters in a specific literary work. This is a newdirection based on previous achievements inresearching the characteristics and functions ofstory language. Using the above principle to studythe quantification of the attributes in characterbuilding of the short story Drops of Blood can helpreaders and researchers recognize the beauty of thewords and the writer's creativity. Besides, thisdirection also helps the writer improve thetheoretical toolkit to continue to contribute more tothe story research process from the linguisticperspective
