Aquaculture is one of the primary livelihoods in the coastal areas of Nam Dinh but is currently facing numerous challenges, both environmental and economic, with climate change further increasing these risk. Based on the DFID Sustainable Livelihoods Framework, this study aims to assess the current status of aquaculture livelihood development in the coastal areas of Nam Dinh. Through in-depth interviews with local officials and experts conducted between June and August 2024, together with statistical data from 2010–2023, the findings reveal that most farmers rely on traditional farming methods which are effective but involve high risks and are highly vulnerable to diseases and market fluctuations - particularly weatherrelated risks intensified by climate change. In addition, constraints in access to capital, technology, and market linkages hinder the expansion of production. The study proposes a range of solutions to guide the sustainable development of aquaculture-based livelihoods for coastal communities in Nam Dinh, with a focus on enhancing climate change adaptation.
