Abstract

The study was conducted in Lam river basin, covering an area of 17,900 km2 (Vietnamese territory), with the purpose of creating an ecological map to serve the environmental zoning. Information on the basin includes: topography, climate, soil showing the differentiation of infertility factors. The vegetation cover is a data layer showing the distribution of bio-factors, which is determined based on Landsat 8 image analysis combined with field work. The above data are used to create the map of ecosystem of Lam river basin by the method of overlaying and adjusting component maps with the support of GIS. The study has identified 13 major ecosystems, which are shown on the Lam River basin ecosystem map at 1: 100,000 scale. In particular, it supports the accounting for the largest area of forest ecosystems, mainly distributed in the upper and middle regions. Ecosystems of ponds, swamps and mangroves occupy the smallest area, distributed downstream
