Situation of using alcohol among students at the Hanoi University of Public Health: Some implications for social work practice

Abstract

Students' behavior of using alcohol is one of the current worries. This study aimed to describe the current situation of students’ behavior of using alcohol at the Hanoi University of Public Health and give some implications for social work practice in solving the problem of using alcohol among students currently. The study conducted a survey of 874 students, who study bachelor's degrees at the Hanoi University of Public Health, of which the percentage of alcohol-usage among male students was 39.69% and that among female students was 22.36%. In the univariate regression model, the factors of gender and heart disease were related to alcohol among student (p <0.05). The study also showed implications for social work practices such as communication activities and awareness raising; psychological counseling activities; and connecting activities in helping students
