Mythological elements in the portrayal of the epic Mahabharata’s hero

Abstract

Based on the comments of French philologist Georges Dumézil on correlation between gods and heroes in Mahabharata, the paper has analyzed and demonstrated the manifestations of this relationship through the epic Mahabharata. Fundamental features have been identified, including the motif of a mythic birth, the role of supernatural agents, the infinite hyperbole, and the depiction of mythical deaths. They are all helpful to create the mythological air to the hero in the epic Mahabharata
