Abstract
The Hon Yen in Phu Yen Province is a recognized National Heritage Site of Vietnam, renowned for its unique geotourism offerings in the form of columnar basalt formations and coral reefs. This study employed field observation methods, Rapid Rural Appraisal (PRA), and SWOT analysis to uncover the biodiversity and geotourism potential of Hon Yen for greentourism development. The research offers an overview of the concept and definition of greentourism, and evaluates the potential, strengths, limitations, and threats associated with sustainable tourism development in Hon Yen. The results of the survey and analysis reveal the high biodiversity of Hon Yen, which is characterized by its rich and diverse coral reef ecosystems and breathtaking natural and cultural landscapes. Additionally, Hon Yen is home to one of the rarest columnar basalt islands along the Vietnamese coastline, and maintains traditional fishing village culture. The linkage of greentourism with agriculture through niche products represents a novel and sustainable approach to tourism development in Phu Yen Province.
