Shear strengthening concrete beams using CFRP rebars

Abstract

    This paper presents test results of reinforced concrete beams strengthened in flexure using carbon-FRP (CFRP) rebars as NSM (near surface mounted) method that consists of placing CFRP rebars into grooves pre-cut in the concrete cover at the tension region of the beams. The structural performance and modes of failure of the tested beams are presented and discussed. Test results indicated that using NSMFRP rebar significantly improves the shear strength and considerably reduces the appearance of fissures of reinforced concrete beams.
