Water environmental elements for shrimp farming in Tam Nong, Dong Thap

Abstract

     To harness the flood water, creating jobs and increasing income, farmers in Tam Nong Dong Thap province have built the model rice combined prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii). This model is significant economic benefit to the people and being the main top priority in the program of socioeconomic development of the district.

    According to the 2013 agriculture plan, Tam Nong district will increase the area of shrimp farming to 1,000 ha, production reached 1,700 tons. This contributes to increased income for farmers but also can cause environmental implementations.

    This paper presents results of the study on the relationship between the development and expansion of shrimp farming area with some environmental elements as a basis for the planning and sustainable development of shrimp farming in Tam Nong district, Dong Thap province.
