Application eco-geo-sand bags for river bank protection using geo-bag solution for a river bank protection pilot project in Tien Giang province

Abstract

      The river bank landslide is a pressing problem in Vietnam. The landslide happens in almost rivers and affect directly to economy and society. In order to face up to this problem the government annually invests a big budget to built river bank protection projects around the country. The common solutions primarily use the conventional hard materials (e.g.,concrete, rock). However, these solutions usualy have high cost, affect to environment, repair or upgrade is difficult. This paper will introduce, develope and apply to a pilot project using the geotextile sand bag (Geobag) solution for river bank, a soft solution with low-cost, environmentally friendly being increasingly applied popular in the world.
