Abstract

Architecture and cultural identity of Vietnam always have organic relations and both originate from national traditions. In the trend of globalization and integration today, architecture is modernized in inheritance of national quintessence to obliviously reflect regional identities and become a symbolic feature for traditional cultural characteristics. Architecture of irrigation structures does not stand aside that trend. Some structures with a harmonious combination between traditional architecture and modern technology have become a highlight for local cultural tourism. The article suggests some orientations for applying traditional cultural characters to irrigation structure architecture to contribute to establishing a sustainable scientific foundation in preserving and promoting national identity in modern designs for engineers, architects, managers, and related experts in the process of new rural construction.
