Safety evaluation of earth dam based on seepage criteria

Abstract

    Reservoir earth dam is popular hydraulic structure in the World and in Vietnam. Safety is required for this structure in general and seepage criteria in particular for earth dam. In operation and management of an earth dam reservoir, what criteria a manager can use to evaluate and can solve if seepage observation is available? This article presents seepage evaluation criteria for earth dams of small and medium scale, method for quantizing seepage criteria and earth dam evaluation procedure in consideration of seepage criteria. The research results are not only used to evaluate dam safety regarding seepage but also used for synthetic evaluation of earth dam with other criteria.
