Coastal erosion assessment in Binh Thuan province reasons analysis and protection methods suggestion

Abstract

    The coastal areas of Binh Thuan province is the place where has the potentials of aquaculture, harbors and especially tourism. However, it is faced by erosion that happens complicatedly and seriously. In some recent years, there are many places along the coastline that have eroded seriously as in Ham Tien, Mui Ne, Phuoc The... and many protected projects have carried out effectively. However, there have not had the project to study on the whole area about the erosion process. Wave impact, the effect of wave refraction due to topography, and geomorphology in the coastline must be studied carefully. The paper has presented the coastal erosion assessment, analysed the reasons and erosion mechanism in order to suggest timely protection methods (direct and indirect protected structures) to protect and mitigate disaster to meet the requirement of maintenance and reservation of coastline.
