Abstract

Vietnam has a long coastline of approximately 3.200 km, and has EEZ area is three times larger than her land area. Almost of important cities locate in the coastal zone of Vietnam. The coastal zone of Vietnam is exposed to a host of environmental hazards such as flash floods, sea level rise, wetland and ecological sites losses... Remote sensing is likely to be a valuable technique in researching and mitigating these hazards as well as in integrated coastal zone and islands management in Vietnam. However, sources of satellite images depend on developed countries, because Vietnam has not her own environmental satellite system. Therefore, in order to get performance in applying remote sensing to sustainable development, Vietnam must invest effectively to train Vietnamese scientist, to improve quality of laboratories and to obtain state of the art equipments
