Abstract

Currently, steel gates are used for water intake and flood discharge in irrigation and hydropower projects. Gate seal are installed around the gates to prevent leakage from the upstream to dowstream due to the pressure of the water blocking the water seal into the slot. But this greatly increases the frictional force when opening and closing the gates, which is difficult to open and close the gates. The paper proposes to adjust the structure of the waterproof rubber seal to change the water pressure on the rubber seal to reduce the force of the gates opening and closing. The proposed study was tested in a practical setting, showing a reduction in backstop force of nearly 50%. The results of the study reduced equipment costs and operating costs, practical and economic efficiency.
