Research on developing criteria and index of water security in the Ma river basin

Abstract

    Water security has been presently become a significant and urgent issue for many river basins and areas in the world, especially international river basins and water scarce areas. Ma river is a transboundary river with abundant water resources, however, the water resources of Ma river is unevenly distributed in space and time. The rapid social-economic development and the affects from climate change onthe Ma river basin, especially at downstream and estuary areas have a great pressure on the water security and environment protection. In order to ensure the sustainable development in the Ma river basin, this paper presents the studied results on criteria and indexes development of water security, and their application for a particular areas in 2015 and in future 2030.
