Abstract

Mangrove forests are special ecosystems that exist in transition zone between land and ocean. This is ahighly bio-ecosystem that receives large amounts of nutrients from rivers and seas. The aim of this studyis determine the above-ground biomass of planted mangroves in Xuan Thuy National Park. The resultshave established the equations for above-ground biomass accumulation according to plant size anddensity as well as with stand age. These equations are used to estimate the above-ground biomass of theplanted Kandelia obovata. The above-ground biomass accumulation in planted mangroves increasedover time, with the values ranging from 79.95 Mg ha -1 to 87.66 Mg ha -1 in 18 to 20 years old K.obovata, respectively. The results of this study could be used to assess the potential for greenhousegases accumulation from carbon stored in mangroves in the context of global climate change.
