Abstract

The article introduces a new approach on using Sentinel-1 Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images in the new establishment of reservoir characteristic curve, and the calibration of existing reservoir characteristic curves for reservoirs with the capacity of over one million m3 in Tay Nguyenregion. The article introduces backscattering characteristics of radar image polarizations on several dry, moist, and wetlands; Sentinel-1 image preprocessing steps, issues encountered in the establishment of image interpretation algorithms. Research result of the article is the premise to complete the establishment solution of reservoir characteristic curves from free satellite images and facilitate new solutions for requirements such as flood mapping, water resource inventory, etc. in real time.
