Abstract
In recent years, various protection measures such as revetments, breakwaters, groynes… have been implemented along the coastline between the Phu Hai and Ca Ty estuaries. However, Thanh Hai beach has not yet been protected. In 2017 and 2018, a number of sections were eroded more than 50 m landward, stretching over 1 km along the coast. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the configuration of coastal protection solutions at Thanh Hai. Using a state of the art numerical model MIKE 21, the beach morphology is modelled and assessed in two cases including a series of two detached breakwaters and a
group of four fish-tail groynes, respectively. The simulation results suggest that the latter stimulate sedimentation faster. As a result, the beach would sooner reach the equilibrium state
