Implementation of tropical cyclone models in EFDC+
Keywords:
Abstract
Different approaches to integrate tropical cyclone parametric models with hydrodynamic models are investigated and four tropical cyclone parametric models are integrated into the Environmental Fluid Dynamics Code (EFDC+). The models are verified with wind observations during Hurricane Katrina in 2005 showing that the models are quite consistent with reality. The integration of tropical cyclone parametric models into EFDC+ will provide researchers an effective tool to assess the effects of typhoons on hydrodynamic processes, mass transports, coastal erosion, and environmental pollution.
