Abstract

Vietnam is among the most vulnerable nations to climate change impacts. Besides sea level rise causing increasing flooding risk in coastal areas, climate change also impacts water resources that affect water use stakeholders, especially water demand for agriculture. The changing precipitation and increasing temperature, which increase the evaporation amount, can significantly change irrigation water requirements of crops. This paper studies on the climate change impacts on irrigation water requirement of orange trees in Hoa Binh province using multi climate models. The results show that irrigation water requirement of orange increases in both two scenarios and five climate models in 2026- 2045 compared with the baseline 1986-2005 period. The highest increasing rate is about 50% with the IP_Reg models, and the lowest increasing rate is about 20% with the MP_Reg models.
