ASSESSMENT OF THE SUSTAINABLE ETHNIC CULTURE IN COMMUNITY-BASED TOURISM IN HOA BINH RESERVOIR AREA

Abstract

This study aims to assess the sustainability of ethnic culture in community-based tourism (CBT), applied sociological investigation and cultural sustainability assessment methods with 21 criteria, divided into 5 groups (Accepting cultural diversity; Preserving ethnic languages; Preserving ethnic cultural identity; Ethnic self-consciousness; The contribution of culture) to socio-economic development. The results show that the criterion of "Ethnic self-consciousness" reaches a sustainable level (8.46 points). The remaining 4 criteria are assessed at potentially sustainable level with a score from 6.21 to 7.32. This proves that CBT is an effective tool for preserving and promoting traditional cultural values. However, there are still 4 criteria in the group of “preserving ethnic cultural identity” are classified as potentially unsustainable. Based on the evaluation results, this study has proposed a process to preserve and promote ethnic cultural values ​​in CBT activities in a sustainable way.
