In our country, cross-border ethnic relations have been going on for many years. Since the introduction of the Doi Moi (Renovation) policy (1986) until now, this relationship has increased rapidly in terms of scale, intensity and frequency with complicated developments, so it creates a significant impact on the lives of the population and the socio-economic situation in border areas. From the perspective of anthropology, ethnography, and through case studies on Khmer and Cham people, this article clarifies the reality and impact of this phenomenon on socio-economic life, association and political security in the southwestern border region. Research results show that the cross-border relationship between these two ethnic groups is increasing, so it plays a very important role in their livelihoods. However, this relationship also has great immediate and long-term impacts on political security in the Vietnam-Cambodia border region.
