Abstract

The Chinese have been present in many parts of the world, through political refugee migration, commercial development, and disease evasion. Vietnam Tourane Port (another name for Da Nang city by the French in the early twentieth century) has been imprinted with the Chinese from very early on. The attractiveness of the trading location and favorable policies of the Nguyen court has developed into a Chinese community in Da Nang, parallel to the development of the Chinese in Hội An. This study is being conducted to survey the history of the convergence of the Chinese population in Da Nang, in order to contribute to clarifying the process of forming an ethnic group with a specific culture in the South Central region. The research method "life history" in cultural anthropology, meta-analysis of secondary documents used in the research process shows that the Chinese community living in Da Nang was more established than in Hoi An, but growing. Their main economic activity is trading, which has made certain contribution to the development of the city in the present time.
