Abstract

Coastal wetlands play an important role for both humans and nature in helping to store carbon and combat the adverse effects of climate change. They are also the habitat of many species of creatures; provide food supplies and create livelihoods for local people. However, the quality of Vietnam's coastal wetland ecosystems is facing many risks, especially in areas affected by tides, seagrass beds, and mangroves. Meanwhile, many localities have not properly assessed and promoted the value of wetland ecosystem services. There are still conflicts in the harmonization of the goals of development and conservation of wetlands. Within the framework of this article, a number of theoretical and practical issues were clarified regarding the exploitation of services which are related to coastal wetland ecosystems in order to make more rational use of the economy and protect the environment.
