Abstract
Using the method of sociological investigation, the authors conducted a survey on the current situation of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation capacity of 238 secondary school pupils in two districts of Sin Ho (Lai Chau) and Kon Plong (Kon Tum). The results show that their ability is still very limited. The average score is only 73.4 points, ranked at "medium" level. No pupil is rated at "good" or higher, rated "fairly good" only 15 pupils, accounting for 6.3% and up to 32 pupils (13.4%) were classified as "less good" level. The vast majority of the remaining (191/238 pupils, accounting for 80.3%) are in the "medium" scale frame. It is worth noting that, out of the three dimensions of competency assessment including knowledge, skills and attitudes, the assessment of knowledge is rated the lowest, at “less good” level. Research results can be useful for localities in choosing appropriate solutions to improve pupils' capacity to reduce disaster risk and adapt to climate change.
