Abstract

In recent years, Nghe An province has achieved significant strides in hunger eradication

and poverty reduction in the northwestern mountainous region of the province. The region's poverty

rate was only 5.86% in 2021 (as compared to that in 2016 of 20.17%). These results are due to a

number of advantages in geographical location, natural resources, promoting training for the

workforce, and the growth and structural transformation of the economy, and investment capital.

Besides the above advantages, difficulties in terrain management, inclement climate, differentiation

of natural resources, investment capital, population-labour source, economic development level are

different. All these factors are a barrier to the implementation of the region's poverty reduction

strategy. This article analyzes the impact of geographical location, natural resources and socio

economic conditions on poverty and poverty reduction in the Northwestern mountainous region of

Nghe An province, as a basis for providing appropriate poverty reduction solutions for the region.
