Abstract

Green growth has been recently identified as a strategy for sustainable development in Vietnam,
particularly in the context of being a country heavily affected by natural disasters and climate change. In order
to implement a green growth strategy, a large capital source is required for green projects. In addition with
the banking system, the capital market in general and the bond market in particular, are important capital
mobilization channels for green projects, thereby gradually forming a green financial system to serve the
national strategic targets. This article analyses the current state of green finance used for the requirements
of green economic growth, based on the system of green financial instruments, green financial institutions,
and green financial markets. Thence, the authors assess the positive aspects as well as the shortcomings and
limitation in the development of green finance to serve the green economic growth in Vietnam.
