Ideological activities under the Trần Dynasty and lessons learnt for ideological work in the contemporary context

Abstract

Throughout Vietnamese history, the Trần dynasty stands out as a ruling dynasty that 
developed a highly systematic and effective approach to ideological work. This approach generated 
formidable spiritual strength that enabled the nation to repel foreign aggressors, contributed to 
stabilising, shaping, and advancing the country to a new stage of development. Entering a new era, 
the Resolution of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam identifies spiritual 
strength as both a vital resource and a driving force for building a prosperous and flourishing nation. 
Trần dynasty ideological work offers profound lessons for contemporary ideological work, particularly 
in fostering social consensus based on the principle that “the people are the foundation”; mobilising 
endogenous strength rooted in national cultural identity and the spirit of self-reliance and 
self-strengthening; and promoting the exemplary role of the leadership in translating ideas into practice.
